A MULTI-MILLION pound development will bring 92 new affordable homes to Malvern.

County housing developer Fortis Living has appointed Malvern-based contractors Speller Metcalfe to begin work on the development at Pickersleigh Grove.

The development will replace the previous 42 post-war homes which were demolished in 2016 and will extend to land adjacent to the site.

It will comprise of a mix of 60 two, three and four bedroom houses for shared ownership as well as a further eight two and three bedroom houses.

There will also be 24 one bedroom flats for affordable rent.

The scheme’s delivery is being supported by grant funding from Homes England.

In addition to the 92 properties, a children’s play area will also be built, making use of repurposed timber from trees which will be felled on the site.

Simon Vick, assistant director of growth and development at Fortis Living, said: “As part of the contract award, Speller Metcalfe will work closely with local residents at Grove Primary School to keep disruption to an absolute minimum.

“We are delighted the finished scheme will deliver much needed affordable housing.”

The Pickersleigh Grove development will be the largest land-led scheme which Fortis Living has delivered, providing much needed affordable housing in the area.

It is also the biggest housing scheme delivered by Speller Metcalfe’s Living Division.

Fortis Living obtained the project through the Homes England agency Delivery Partner Panel Three (DPP3) Framework.

Following an in-depth competitive process, the contract was awarded to Speller Metcalfe last year.

Rob Ackerman, pre-construction manager at Speller Metcalfe said: “We are pleased to be working with our long standing client Fortis Living on this exciting new project.

“Both Fortis Living and Speller Metcalfe have been part of the Malvern community for many years now and are both looking forward to collaborating on this scheme which will enhance the local area and deliver a positive impact for existing and future residents of Pickersleigh Grove.”
