Diamond anniversary prompts hunt for old photos of Pickersleigh's St Mary's Church

THE DIAMOND anniversary of St Mary’s Church in Pickersleigh has prompted a hunt for old photos of the building and estate.

Residents with photos from the 1950s, 60s and 70s tucked away in their cupboards and drawers who would be willing to have them displayed as part of the 60th anniversary weekend starting on June 2 have been urged to get in touch.

The celebrations include a display of the church’s history and the estate.

While some of the houses on the estate are more than 100 years old, most of the estate was built in the 50s and 60s.

St Mary’s was opened in 1958 and as well as being a church it has hosted baby clinics, youth clubs, toddler groups, fitness classes and the popular residents’ group which itself recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Rev Lynne Sparks, vicar of St Mary’s, said: “Many local people have very fond memories of either growing up or raising a family on the estate.

“We would love it if they would be willing to share their photos with us.”
