CENTRAL and local government have come together in Malvern to highlight the importance of the town’s new community hub.

Malvern Town Council welcomed their MP, Dame Harriett Baldwin, to Malvern Link’s new hub in Victoria Park which will serve as both a space for the community and the town council.

Dame Harriett took a tour of the new space which includes a community room, the town council’s offices and a cafe – due to open in late October.

The hub will also serve as the home of collaboration between the council and Heartstart Malvern in recognition of the town’s mayor choosing the charity as one of its civic beneficiaries.

Heartstart Malvern will deliver some lifesaving training workshops at the hub which also now home to both a defibrillator and a public access trauma kit (PAcT).

The PAcT aims to provide the public with all the essential equipment to help manage bleeding whilst waiting for the paramedics to arrive on scene. Some of the items included are bandages, gauzes, personal protection and tourniquets.

Marilyn Birks, mayor of Malvern said: “We were thrilled to welcome Dame Harriett Baldwin MP to talk about matters relating to Malvern and to highlight the importance of providing both a defibrillator and a public access trauma kit.

Heartstart Malvern will host its 90 minute training sessions on Wednesday, October 16 in the hub’s Park View Community Room as part of the National Restart a Heart Day campaign.

Individuals and businesses are invited to learn vital CPR and defibrillator training.

Mayor Birks added: “This lifesaving equipment alongside the training being provided could be the difference between life and death if an emergency were to occur. “
