FURIOUS town football chiefs have slammed heartless vandals who went on the rampage at their stadium and accused them of ‘diverting the club’s attention’ from its work in the community.
Malvern Town bosses were left devastated after they discovered the press box had been smashed along with audio equipment and radio microphones while guttering and piping was ripped off the main stand.
The damage is believed to have happened between midday on Sunday and 8.45am on Monday.
Chairman Chris Pinder told the Observer the heartless attack diverted the club’s attentions from the important work which they wanted to focus on.
“It’s really frustrating more than anything else because it’s another job which has been added to an endless list of jobs which need to be done,” he said.
“What makes it worse is the fact the press box with the cabinet storing our audio and radio equipment was only installed at the start of this season.
“You hear of this kind of thing happening all over the country where clubs have had equipment damaged, windows smashed and other kinds of vandalism.
“We’ve been lucky over the past five or six years to have not been subject to it but it’s a shame some bored youths have decided to attack our club this time around.”
Replacing the equipment and making repairs could cost the club around £1,000 but Mr Pinder stressed the time required to do the work was often overlooked.
“If we want all the damage fixed and equipment replaced by the time our next home game comes on November 10 we might have to pay for a company to do it rather than rely on a club volunteer because they would have to use up their own private time to help us out.
“The cost of hiring a company for a morning could be a couple of hundred pounds more for us to pay.”
Mr Pinder added the club would try to avoid claiming on their insurance due to fears over a premium increase.
