PARTY-GOERS are being urged to drink in moderation during the Christmas season.
West Mercia and Warwickshire Police have issued the plea in a bid to deter anti-social behaviour and violent crime during the traditionally busy time.
Officers will be handing out thousands of festive leaflets to people on nights out in town and city centres across the area encouraging them to be sensible.
The postcard size flyers will also carry some safety tips and hundreds of posters will go up in pubs with similar messages.
Chief Inspector Helena Bennett said: “Although the vast majority of people have a great time and get home safely after a night out, it is a sad fact that the festivities can turn into a nightmare for some.
“In most of these cases, the tragic or distressing circumstances could have been avoided with a little more care and consideration. Instead, for victims and perpetrators alike, Christmas is blighted.”
