TWO carers from a Sanctuary Care home in Malvern are celebrating after being shortlisted for prestigious awards.
Sonia Davies and Annette Lisseman, who work at Hastings Residential Care Home on Barnards Green Road, are up for this year’s West Midlands Care Awards following surprise nominations by their home manager Sue Milward.
Sonia, who cares for her 35-year-old disabled son James at home and joined the Hastings team part-time last year, has been put forward for the Care Newcomer Award which recognises a new member of staff who has excelled in their role and showed a willingness and determination to improve their skills.
“I felt so blessed to have been nominated and then shortlisted,” said Sonia.
“I enjoy every minute at work and it is a wonderful feeling knowing I make a difference to our residents’ lives.”
Meanwhile senior care assistant Annette, who has worked at Hastings for five years, is up for the Care Home Worker Award which applauds those who provide high quality care and go the extra mile.
“I do my job because I love it, I was never expecting to be honoured like this,” said Annette.
“I’m just so shocked.”
Both Sonia and Annette will be attending an awards gala night on Friday at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham where the category winners will be announced.
The winners of the regional awards will then go forward for the Great British Care Awards national finals in February 2018.
Home manager Sue said: “We are so fortunate to have both of these wonderful ladies with us at Hastings and we are so proud that they have been shortlisted in each of their respective categories.
“Sonia and Annette are both so deserving of this great honour.”
