AN ELDERLY woman had to be rushed to hospital after she was hit by a car in Malvern this morning (Wednesday).

The incident, which took place about 11.55am near to the Santander Back, on Worcester Road, left the 83-year-old conscious but with a probable fracture to her left shoulder as well as left hip pain.

A rapid response vehicle was on scene within four minutes and was backed up by an ambulance and a paramedic area support officer. The Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham was also call but was later told to stand down.

When the emergency services arrived at the scene there were around 100 people gathered to see what was going on. They had received more than 14 999 calls.

The woman was immobilised using a neck collar and spinal board and given pain relief before she was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further assessment and treatment.

The man driving the car was unhurt but was shaken by what had happened. There was also slight damage to the bonnet where the woman had been hit.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The initial calls suggested that the incident was more serious than it thankfully turned out to be.”
