THE CLASSIC story of Around the World in Eighty Days comes to Malvern Theatres this week.
Based on the adventure novel by French writer Jules Verne, first published in French in 1872, it tells the story of Phileas Fogg from London.
He has a newly employed French valet Passepartout who both attempt to circumnavigate the world in 80 days on a wager of £20,000 set by his friends at the Reform Club. It is one of Verne’s most acclaimed works.
In this adaptation the audience join the raggle-taggle band of travelling circus performers as they embark on their most daring feat yet – to recreate the adventures of Phileas Fogg as he sets off on his race around the world.
Tilted Wig present York Theatre Royal’s production which runs from Tuesday to Saturday, February 14 to 18.
This is the telling of two tales – fact meets fiction as the audience will learn the incredible true story of American journalist Nellie Bly who emulated the character of Phileas in her record-breaking trip around the world.
People can watch the drama unfold as our skilled performers traverse every country, embrace each character and navigate every mode of transport, as two tales intertwine on a madcap journey around the globe.
It is suitable for those aged five and up and lasts two hours and 10 minutes, including an interval.
