DRIVERS have been urged to get out of their cars and walk or cycle as the warm weather strikes.
The Malvern Hills Green Party has called on residents to ditch the motor vehicles and take a more environmentally friendly approach.
Julian Roskams, Green Party parliamentary candidate and a keen cyclist, attended Malvern Cycles to oversee the launch of a new cycling campaign.
“As a nation we seem to be getting heavier, unhealthier and increasingly car dependent,” he said. “We need to reverse this trend for our own good and we can do something about climate change into the bargain.”
Dr John Blewitt, chairman of Malvern Hills Green Party and district council candidate for Malvern Chase, added: “Cycling is good for the local economy.
“In March this year the Department of Transport published a report stating a shift from car driving to cycling and walking can have excellent benefit to cost ratios (BCR) representing very high value for money.”
