Essentials for babies on sale soon thanks to Malvern childbirth charity

Malvern Editorial 4th Nov, 2024   0

A CHARITY dedicated to supporting people through pregnancy is set to host its popular nearly new sale.

Malvern Hills National Childbirth Trust (NCT) is thrilled to announce the return of its NCT Nearly New Sale on Saturday, November 23.

The sale gives local families a chance to sell and shop for gently used baby and children’s items, including clothing (up to age 8), toys, books, baby essentials, travel cots, maternity wear and more.

Malvern Hills NCT is a volunteer-run local branch of the national NCT charity, dedicated to supporting people through pregnancy, birth and into early parenthood across the UK.

For the event, sellers register in advance, price their items, and drop them off the evening before the sale.

Charity volunteers then work behind the scenes to sort, quality-check, and display everything into a pop-up shop organised by category and age.

The local branch of Malvern Hills NCT emphasises environmentally friendly, community-centered initiatives.

“We’re really proud to help local parents shop sustainably for their children,” said Fiona Brittain, a Malvern Hills NCT volunteer.

“This is just one of our planet-saving initiatives at Malvern Hills NCT; we’re also proud of our established Welly Library and new Party Plate Library, which help parents reduce their plastic usage.”

The branch is also very proud of their dedicated volunteer team. “Our Nearly New Sale is organised and run solely by local volunteers,” says Caroline Cage, one of the event’s lead volunteers.

“We’re so grateful to our incredible team and always welcome new volunteers.”

Last spring’s sale sold over 1,700 items, drawing shoppers from across the community, including parents, grandparents, and caregivers.

Every purchase helps fund NCT’s mission, supporting a variety of programs, from local Malvern Hills walks and libraries to national helplines and services. Proceeds from the sale also fund local initiatives like the branch’s NCT Baby Café, helping provide feeding support to local new parents.

“It’s inspiring to witness the community come together, offering high-quality preloved items while helping one another,” said Kathryn Bancroft, Volunteer Branch Coordinator of Malvern Hills NCT.

“These events are important for local families and allow us to continue running free activities for local parents and support the vital services of NCT helplines.”

“It’s a true testament to the power of community.”

The sale will start at 1.30pm at St Edmund’s Hall, Malvern College. Early entry (1.15pm) is available for NCT members.
