Extra 20 charging points heading to Malvern Hills District Council's car parks

Malvern Editorial 25th Oct, 2021   0

AN ADDITIONAL 20 electric vehicle charging points will be installed in Malvern Hills District Council owned car parks.

The new additions, approved at the last Executive Committee meeting, will include four in The Council House car park off Avenue Road, six in Link Top, off Newtown Road, in Great Malvern.

There will also be four in New Street, Upton-upon-Severn, and six in Teme Street, Tenbury Wells.

The council currently has eight charging points in its Priory Road car park in Great Malvern.

Malvern Hills District Council has a commitment under both the 5 Year Plan and Destination Zero report to install electric charging points in its public car parks.

Funding is available from the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), under its On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme. The four car parks across the district have been identified as being eligible for this funding.

The aim of the scheme is to increase the availability of on-street charging points in residential areas where off-street parking is not available and to ensure that on-street parking is not a barrier to realising the benefits of owning a plug-in electric vehicle.

The council has also provided £50,000 towards the installation.

Coun Peter Whatley, Portfolio Holder for Resources at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “The 20 new electric vehicle charging points are a welcome addition to the council’s car parks.

“This is all part of our Destination Zero report which is our commitment creating a greener, more sustainable district and reducing carbon emissions within the area to net zero.”
