Father and son on march for the RBL

Malvern Editorial 25th Jun, 2015 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

A FATHER and son will be put through their paces as they undertake a 150-mile walk in aid of the Royal British Legion.

Tom and Thomas Rose are currently making their way from Malvern to Aberystwyth as they aim to raise at least £1,000 for the cause.

Tom, 66, who was a soldier for 11 years, and his 32-year-old son set off from the Worcestershire Beacon at the Malvern Hills on Monday (June 22) and are hoping to have the challenge completed in six days.

The pair have done a series of fund-raising events for the RBL including a walk from Malvern to Wales in 2012 and the London Marathon earlier this year.

Tom, who now works as a volunteer for the Barnards Green Poppy Appeal, said: “I know people who have been helped a lot by the RBL with issues in their lives since they left the services.

“As an ex soldier I support the Royal British Legion and the work they do for ex servicemen and women and their families.

“They need funds all year round, not just at Poppy Appeal time.

“It is clear to me the people of Malvern, like the whole of the UK, are great supporters of the annual Poppy Appeal.

“It is also nice to share the event together with my son, and because he is my son I can bully him a bit on the walk.”

The pair will travel along parts of the Wye Valley, through the Elan Valley to Devils Bridge and then onto the coast.
