AN UPTON-upon-Severn businessman is taking on an epic challenge to raise vital funds for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

Thomas Warner, owner of construction business Skimline UK Ltd, is taking part in the Survival of the Fittest, a 10km urban assault course, in Cardiff on Saturday, September 24.

The event, which is organised by Men’s Health Magazine, is the longest running obstacle race series in Britain and features an array of challenges including shipping container pyramids to stunt jumps from lorries.

So far, the 37-year-old has raised £110.

Mr Warner, whose wife Janine is deputy head nurse at Acorns for the Three Counties on Bath Road, said: “I know from personal experience the amazing things Acorns do for the children and families who receive care.

“I wanted to support a good local charity that really makes a difference in the community.

“The event will be my biggest racing challenge to date and I’m under no illusions it’s going to be tough but it’s all for a very good cause so that will really help spur me on.”

Acorns provides specialist palliative care and support at its three hospices in the West Midlands and in the community.

In the past year, Acorns for the Three Counties has supported over 200 children and more than 290 families, including those who are bereaved.

Gemma Timmis, from the fund-raising team at Acorns, added: “Our hats go off to Thomas for stepping up to this immense challenge.

“It’s with huge gratitude that we wish him the very best of luck and I hope lots of people dig deep to help us in our work.”
