Firms get help with new recycling rules

Malvern Editorial 20th Apr, 2015 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

BUSINESSES can now recycle the same materials as houses thanks to a new service launched by Malvern Hills District Council.

New regulations require businesses to separate recyclable material such as paper, plastic, metal and glass from other waste in a bid to improve the quality and quantity of recycling across the country.

And to help companies meet the new obligation, MHDC launched its new commercial recycling service yesterday (Tuesday) with collections being made fortnightly on a Tuesday and Friday, but not necessarily on the same day as general waste which goes to landfill.

Ivor Pumfrey, head of community services at MHDC, said: “We are really excited to be able to offer this fantastic new service to our existing and new business customers.

“Over half of our commercial customers have already joined the new service and we have also attracted some brand new customers.

“We hope this service improvement will encourage businesses to recycle as much as possible so we can all play a part in helping our environment.”

Bins vary in size from 240 litres to 1,100 litres and prices range from £8.55 for a 240 litre bin per collection to £42.50 for 25 recycling sacks.

Businesses based on Malvern Hills Science Park are among those using the service.

Tom Robinson, facilities co-ordinator at the Science Park, added: “Using Malvern Hills for our recyclable waste has allowed us to consolidate our suppliers, which made invoicing and management much simpler and saved us money on our previous solution.

“We can now recycle glass as well which was not possible before.”
