Flood warnings remain for Malvern villages in Storm Henk aftermath

Malvern Editorial 4th Jan, 2024 Updated: 4th Jan, 2024   0

NEW flood warnings have been issued for areas of Malvern this morning (Thursday, January 4), as Storm Henk brought heavy rain across the UK earlier this week.

Warnings have been issued for the River Severn in Upton-upon-Severn at East Waterside, Dunn’s Lane and Hanley Road and Kempsey Yacht Club river gauge.

At Saxons Lode river gauge – near East Waterside, Dunn’s Lane and Hanley Road – water levels are expected to peak today at between 5.4m and 5.6m.

River levels are expected to remain high over the next few days. Consequently, flooding of property and roads is expected in these areas.

At Kempsey Yacht Club, water levels peaked at 7.26m yesterday evening (Wednesday, January 3) with flooding expected to affect Court Meadow Caravan Park.

River levels near Kempsey Yacht Club are also expected to remain high over the next few days.

A flood alert has also been issued for Lower Teme river gauge near Kempsey and Bransford.

The Environment Agency have urged people to avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.

They say they are closely monitoring the situation with incident response teams checking defences.
