Folk rock duo tune up to give something back

A TALENTED actor and musician is using his debut CD release to give something back to the charity which helped his late father while he suffered from a life-threatening illness.

Laurence Aldridge, who forms half of Malvern based duo Jack of All with close friend Anna Clifton, is hoping to raise as much money as possible for Parkinson’s UK as part of their debut EP Bindle-Punk.

The acoustic folk/rock duo have been together for about eight months and play mainly original material.

As well as working as a professional actor Laurence, from Cradley near Malvern, plays the guitar and is vocalist for the duo while Anna is on violin.

Laurence’s dad died last year after suffering from Parkinson’s and the EP was funded through the Pledge Music website with ten per cent of future sales also being donated to the charity.

More than £100 has already been raised for the charity with fans from the local area and throughout Europe pre-ordering the EP via the website.

“My dad suffered from Parkinson’s for a long time and the charity were really supportive to us providing him with the care he needed and helped us cope with the whole situation,” Laurence told the Observer.

“The charity were brilliant to us and did a wonderful job. Any money we can raise via our debut EP will be great for them as they can fund vital research moving forward and help others.”

To celebrate the launch of the new EP, Laurence and Anna held a launch party at the West Malvern Social Club on Saturday (November 1) which helped raise even more money for the charity.

Besides the emotional side of the release, Laurence said producing the EP with Anna was a brilliant experience.

“It’s been a very exciting period but quite a tense one for us as well,” he added.

“It was great to see the CDs arrive yesterday as it really demonstrated what we’ve done and made me feel more relaxed. It’s been a big learning curve for us both but seeing the EP develop as it went on was a fantastic experience.”

Jack of All’s Bindle-Punk EP will be available to download on iTunes and other online retailers later this month. Visit www.pledgemusic.com/projects/jackofall to pre-order it.
