A FORMER Chase School student has been voted as one of the country’s top new designers.

Jake Paisley, who was at the Geraldine Road school between 2005 and 2013, was recognised by the Design Council for his De Montfort University final year project which was designing a dementia home support system.

The system is aimed at supporting people with early stage dementia when they feel most vulnerable.

It looks to relieve some of the issues which come with the condition such as memory loss.

The support hub can connect to home appliances which detect when they are in use and alerts the user at regular intervals if it has not been switched off.

If the user does not respond, a text alert is sent to a next of kin.

Sarah Weir OBE, chief executive of the Design Council, said: “This is a fantastic idea which aims to improve the everyday lives of people with early stage dementia.

“A true ‘piece of mind’ product designed and developed in partnership with people with dementia.

“Co-production at its best.”
