A FREE Christmas Day dinner held at the Poolbrook Cafe in Malvern for those who would have spent the day alone has been heralded a success.
Fourteen people aged between their mid-30s and late 90s joined cafe owner Alison Pearson and her son Jake for a festive get-together.
There was also a couple who took out meals for a brother and sister, who were both in their 80s, because they did not feel able to attend the actual event.
All guests were offered sherry on arrival and wine or soft drinks with the Christmas meal which ended with coffee and chocolate mints.
Some light entertainment and a singalong followed before everyone went home with a goodie bag filled with mince pies and chocolates.
“We were overwhelmed by the donations of both gifts and money and ended up with a surplus of £250 which we are passing on to Community Action,” said Alison.
“We had lots of volunteers come forward to help with taxiing people to and from the lunch and helping with serving and chatting to our guests.
“In the end we were turning volunteers away.”
