Free park-run for youngsters in Tenbury Wells needs volunteers and donations

A CALL is being made for volunteers and donations to help set up and deliver a free weekly parkrun for youngsters in Tenbury Wells.

The junior parkrun will be a free 2km journey at Palmer’s Meadow in Tenbury Wells every Sunday at 9am. Children aged 4 to 14 are welcome to walk, jog or run.

The run is being set up by parkrun UK with their event support ambassador William Lloyd alongside support from Andrew Wilmott, Malvern Hills District Councillor for Tenbury Wells.

William Lloyd is calling for volunteers to help with the run and for donations of around £1,000 to help with the set up costs.

William told the Observer: “”I’m delighted that there’s a real appetite for a new junior parkrun event in Tenbury Wells.

“I’ve seen first-hand the physical and mental health benefits that parkrun offers, so it’s going to be great to deliver a similar, free event for children aged four to 14 in and around Tenbury, starting in the not too distant future.

“Junior parkrun events nationally offer a fantastic opportunity for children to take part in free outdoor activity with others in a safe and welcoming environment.

“We are well underway forming our organising team, as well as raising the last bit of funding required to get the event off the ground.

“We would be really keen to hear from anyone that is available and willing to help.”

Funding involves calling on pledges from public health initiatives, council funding, local businesses and other organisations.
