AN ACTION-PACKED programme organised by the Malvern Bagneres Twinning Association allowed 27 French teenagers to experience what Britain has to offer.
Flying over from Bagneres-de-Bigorre, the 16-year-olds stopped off in Windsor before arriving in Malvern, strolling along Long Walk and enjoying the spectacle of the Changing of the Guard.
On their arrival in Malvern, they were greeted by Mayor Coun Cynthia Palmer and were invited to sample a traditional English afternoon tea prepared by the bistro of Malvern Theatres.
The following day, the group experienced a typical school day with students from Hanley Castle High School, Malvern College and RGS Worcester.
Their next experience was a near-total immersion in a Shakespeare-fest.
A day’s excursion to Stratford included interactive workshop sessions, one based on the context of Shakespeare’s age and the second based on interpretation of some of the main themes from Romeo and Juliet.
They also had the opportunity to sit in Shakespeare’s own classroom, try their hand at writing with a quill and were subjected to the rigours of 16th century school discipline.
To complete their visit to England, the French teenagers stopped off at Morgan Motors on Pickersleigh Road.
