A CAR was severely damaged by fire and lighted paper was pushed through a letter box in a suspected arson attempt, which police described as ‘frightening’.

The incident happened about 4am on Monday (January 5) when an address at Awbrey Way in Bromyard was allegedly targeted.

Damage was caused to the vehicle, a blue BMW, and front door of the home but no-one was injured.

A spokesman from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed one appliance from Bromyard attended the scene and the car fire was extinguished at 4.59am using two hose reels.

Det Con Charlotte Wells said: “This was a frightening incident for the occupants of the house but thankfully they did not come to any harm.

“We are very keen to speak to anyone who has information about this fire, or why this property may have been targeted.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting the incident reference 0037S 050115 or details can be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
