From Malvern to Paris: Harry aims to raise cash for the Motor Neurone Disease Association

A FORMER Malvern man has organised a 30th birthday fund-raiser in the town he grew up in to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.

And Harry Arnold-Harris will then be jetting off to France for next month’s Paris Marathon where he will boost the coffers further.

Harry used to attend Hanley Castle High School and worked at several pubs in the area before moving to London where he works as an associate director for a mortgage broker.

The charity race night, which comes five years after he left the spa town, will be held at Christ Church Hall, Avenue Road, on Friday, March 23.

He will then run the marathon over the channel on April 8 and is looking to raise £6,000 in total for MNDA which was established in 1979 to co-ordinate care, support, and research for people affected by MND.

Two of Harry’s University of Roehampton friends, Tom Fogg and Chris Jones, will be joining him for the run from Champs-Élysées to Foch Avenue.

“It’s been ten years since the three of us met at Roehampton and after three degrees, three homes together and everything in between, we have never done anything as important as raising money for this amazing charity,” said Mr Arnold-Harris.

“I have been in London for some years but Malvern is still my real home, and my mum and stepfather along with a lot of good friends have put together a raffle and race-night, and it would be great to see a good crowd at the event.

“It is my birthday that day, and the best present of all would be to see a big crowd, and for us to raise a lot of money.”

BBC Hereford and Worcester presenter Dave Bradley will be hosting the event which features eight races, a quiz and bingo.

Races are available to sponsor for just £20 and entry costs £5.

“We have some great raffle prizes.

“Cricket, rugby and theatres tickets, vouchers for local businesses and a free portrait of your pet are up for grabs.

“I know the people of Malvern are always very generous from my time working in the town.

“I am hoping for a good turn-out to give the charity a real boost.”
