Fund-raisers face their fears in Forest Warrior challenge for Malvern Special Families

Malvern Editorial 23rd Apr, 2018   0

A GROUP of community fund-raisers tackled an extreme 12km mud and obstacle course for a Malvern charity.

The team took part in Forest Warrior in the Forest of Dean on Sunday for Malvern Special Families (MSF).

MSF supports more than 175 families by providing clubs and play schemes for children and young people with disabilities aged between five and 19 in ‘out of school’ hours in Malvern and Worcester.

The fund-raisers found themselves faced with a series of gruelling obstacles as part of the event.

They had to climb over fallen trees, run through thick mud and go over and under obstacles, crawl up a waterfall and scale a giant inflatable iceberg before plunging into an icy river and swimming across it.

Rebecca Lewis-Knight, from the fund-raising team, said: “I recently moved to the area and I wanted to volunteer for a local charity in support of children and young people with disabilities.

“I have really enjoyed meeting new people through Malvern Special Families and it has helped me to feel part of the local community.

“I absolutely loved the Forest Warrior event and have been overwhelmed with the support and donations.”

The group had to run the final 2kms through mud and water then tackle a number of challenging obstacles using monkey bars, scramble nets and a zip wire before climbing over the final hurdle.

Cassie Zoro, community fund-raiser at MSF, said: “The fund-raising team were fantastic and we had so much fun doing Forest Warrior.

“It was a really tough challenge but a fantastic experience.

“We have been overwhelmed by the support we’ve had.

“Thanks to everyone who has donated and taken part.

“We look set to raise more than £1,500 which is fantastic news for the charity.”

The team can still be sponsored by visiting www.justgiving.com/fundraising/msfforestwarriors or popping in to Harvey’s Hair Salon on Edith Walk in Malvern.
