Fund-raising festival to support homeless in Malvern and Worcester

AMBITIOUS plans for a major fund-raising gig in aid of a vital lifeline for homeless people in Worcester and Malvern have been revealed.

Organisers of MAGGStock hope to debut their first fund-raising festival for Maggs Day Centre in 2024 in Cripplegate Park.

In order to raise cash for the event, a series of fund-raisers across the county have been lined up over the course of the next 16 months

Maggs has two day centres, one on Deansway in Worcester open from Monday to Friday with a Malvern base on Newton Road open on Tuesdays and Fridays.

It provides free breakfasts for rough sleepers, showers, laundry facilities, one to one support and safe social gathering spaces for all comers.

Drop-in surgeries for GPs, podiatrists, dentists and more are also on offer along with social coffee mornings and animal therapy sessions.

Maggs also boast an outreach team who operate county wide, engaging with the unengaged, the vulnerable and the isolated.

In addition there is a Harm Reduction Team (HRT) and an Intervention and Transition Team (ITT) who work closely to help rehabilitate those with criminal, alcohol and substance misuse problems.

The lifeline also has the Maggs Clothing Project (MCP) and Maggs Accommodation Project (MAP) which helps to transition individuals from life on the streets to independent living and beyond.

The first fund-raiser is going to be at the Sociable Beer Company on March 18, kicking off with Teresa Myatt, Kaitlyn Elverson, Clare Portman, Los Neibourinos and Funky Junky Monkeys.

Simon Beard, a support worker at Maggs, said: “From venues to churches, bandstands and parks, we have lots of plans in the pipeline to make every event an awesome experience for all.

“The varied programme will allow us to raise funds and awareness for the what we are representing; Maggs, the Worcester-based charity the supports the homeless & vulnerable throughout the county.

“Along with a small army of brilliant, dedicated, irreplaceable volunteers, we have a team of staff who specialise in providing a myriad of services to those we support.

“Not all heroes wear capes,” he added.
