Gino's visit is a recipe for inspiration

Malvern Editorial 26th Nov, 2014 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016

YOUNGSTERS were treated to a ‘fantastico’ morning when one of the nation’s most-loved chefs made a special visit to a Malvern school.

Celebrity Chef Gino D’Acampo was the star guest at The Chase School on Friday (November 21) as he showed students some of the tricks of the trade and held a question and answer session.

The visit was organised by the school’s catering operator, Innovate Services, for whom D’Acampo designs and creates a range of Italian recipes which are made and served by Innovate’s school catering teams across the UK.

The television star met with food technology students and provided a talk to those who are considering careers in catering, as well as meeting students in the school’s main diner during the break time, and held a Q&A interview session in the school’s media suite.

Gino said: “It was a real treat to meet so many students here at The Chase School and to talk to them about cooking, careers in catering and my personal experiences that led me into a career as a chef.

“Growing up in Naples, I inherited my love of cooking from my grandfather, who was a head chef. He taught me many things, like to always push myself to be the best I can be and to say ‘yes’ to whatever life brings my way.

“Although we were poor, I was ambitious and by the time I was 15 years old, I knew cooking was my life’s passion,” he added.

“I hope that by sharing my own experiences, I have helped to inspire some of the students here at The Chase.”

Headteacher Richard Jacobs added: “It really was great to have Gino visit our school, it created a real buzz and he took the time to talk to as many students as possible.”
