Give your postie a 'thumbs-up' and colour-in posters to show your appreciation

TODAY is National Postal Workers’ Day – a celebration of the delivery staff who bring us our mail on a daily basis.

Over the last few weeks Royal Mail has been inundated with messages and pictures from customers across the Midlands praising the extra lengths their posties have gone during the Coronavirus crisis.

The company has also launched a ‘Thumbs-up’ campaign, urging people to give their postmen and women a ‘thumbs up’ through the window as they walk up their front garden, path or driveway.

Shane O’Riordain from Royal Mail said: “We know how much people like to say hi or have a chat with their postie on the doorstep but during this time we need to find new ways of staying connected whilst also protecting our communities.

“This is why we’ve launched our campaign.

“It’s a simple way for the public to say thanks and stay connected with their local postie, while respecting the Government’s social distancing rules.

“Giving a thumbs up is also a handy reminder not to reach out to try and take parcels direct from your postie to ensure contact free delivery.”

As well as the daily gestures, a number of Thumbs-Up templates are available from here which people can download, decorate and put in their front windows to thank their postal staff.

“The bolder, the more creative and colourful the better,” added Shane.

People can post their pictures on social media, using the hashtag #ThumbsUpForYourPostie to get their appreciation across.

Shane said: “We’re really proud of what our postmen and women are doing in these challenging times, and we know you’ll want to join us in thanking them for everything they’re doing.”
