Go ahead despite concerns

Malvern Editorial 12th Mar, 2015 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

A TOTAL of four new bungalows will be built in Powick despite fears the development will be situated too close to a main road.

Proposals will see the four-bedroom homes constructed on Bowling Green Farm after a number of ‘dilapidated’ buildings currently on the Malvern Road site are demolished.

Malvern Hills District Council’s Northern Area Development Management Committee gave the development the green light although concerns were raised by Coun Tom Wells, who represent the area.

He said, among his fears, were the ecology of the site and the distance between the fronts of the property and Malvern Road.

“Since bats seem to be the issue in Malvern Hills at the moment I would like a response as to whether we have properly considered if bats are likely to be affected by this proposal,” he said.

“I have to say, also, in terms of noise pollution they will be next to a very fast dual-track road and I am sure the decibel figures will be breached with this application.

“However, it will tidy the site up and it is lovely in Powick to occasionally be able to support an application for housing.”

Worcestershire Wildlife Trust said the ecology of the site had been reviewed and the existing buildings had little ecological value so the development would not affect protected species.

Coun Elaine Newman, who also represents the area, said the layout was ‘much better’ than previously submitted applications, adding she was happy permission had been granted.

Committee members voted unanimously in favour of the development.
