Malvern grandfather's spectacular Christmas lights return for charity

AN elderly Malvern resident has taken his street by storm with the return of his spectacular charity Christmas lights display.

Keith Owen, 78, a retired disability worker, has dotted his house and drive on Penny Lane, Guarlford, Malvern with an array of colourful festive lighting for people to visit and enjoy.

He has been putting on these huge light displays every year since his eldest granddaughter Amie, now 25, was a little girl. The first time the lights raised money for charity was in 2020, with this year’s funds going to Dementia UK.

The first and second year, Keith managed to raise almost £600 for Macmillan, with last year’s fundraiser going to his local village hall.

Keith said: “All the children’s little faces lighting up make it worth while”.

Dementia UK was chosen as this year’s beneficiary in memory of Keith’s dear friend Randy, and Amie’s other grandfather, Bill, who have both sadly died after suffering with the disease.

The fundraising for Dementia UK will also be in honour of Keith’s sibling, who is currently living with the illness.

You can visit the lights at 8 Penny Lane, Guarlford, WR136PG between 5pm and 8pm. A donation box with a QR code to the online fundraiser page is outside.
