Great Malvern set for facelift in town centres investment plan

Malvern Editorial 13th Dec, 2016   0

GREAT Malvern town centre is set for a facelift to make it more attractive for businesses, residents and visitors.

Malvern is the latest town in Worcestershire to benefit from Worcestershire County Council’s multi-million pound investment for town centre improvements.

As part of an additional £2million investment, work will include improvements to paving, street lighting and street furniture.

Other towns have seen improvements made such as Bromsgrove’s High Street, Kidderminster and several locations in Worcester.

The investment was announced as part of the county’s 2017/18 budget update which includes an increase in council tax of 2.94 per cent.

Council chiefs say two per cent of the increase will be ring-fenced for Adult Social Care services, tackling existing cost pressures and ensuring the most vulnerable older people receive the support they need.

Coun Simon Geraghty, the Leader of Worcestershire County Council said: “We have beautiful rural spaces and many superb and historic town centres. This further investment in a number of town centres is designed to ensure they remain vibrant retail and social spaces where people want to visit and spend time.”

Other areas earmarked for improvement as part of the £2million investment are The Shambles in Worcester and Teme Street in Tenbury.

Along with the £2 million investment into town centre improvements Worcestershire County Council is also proposing to invest £6million on improving the County’s roads and pavements and £5 million on cutting congestion.
