A HANLEY Swan training centre has been given a new lease of life thanks to a £100,000 development.

Staff, volunteers, trainees and more than 30 guests celebrated the official opening of Bridge Training and Development’s extended and improved building at an official ceremony last Friday (February 6).

MP Harriett Baldwin was also present to help cut the ribbon and mark the opening of the building, which was completed with the help of students carrying out construction training courses.

The extension includes an additional workshop, classroom, catering kitchen and recreation area.

Mrs Baldwin said: “It was very interesting to see the work carried out at The Bridge and to meet with the staff and pupils.

“It offers a very wide range of non-traditional subjects to help pupils who are struggling at school and the place has a really great atmosphere.

“Some children do find it difficult to thrive in a school setting so it is great that we have such an impressive facility on our doorstep to make sure every child gets the chance to get effective training to help them make their way in the adult world of work.
