A MALVERN charity dedicated to providing the public with life-saving equipment and training has been nominated for a prestigious award.

Heartstart Malvern, ran entirely by volunteers, has been nominated for ‘The Volunteer Award’ by Dame Harriet Baldwin MP at this years NHS Parliamentary Awards.

The category recognises the crucial role volunteers play in supporting local health and social services.

The Malvern based charity will find out on June 10 whether they have been shortlisted in the regional round of the awards. If they are shortlisted, the charity will attend the Awards Ceremony in London on July 1.

Mrs Lucy Chenevix-Trench, patron at Heartstart Malvern, said: “We are thrilled to be nominated.

“Our small team of volunteers have given up an enormous amount of their time to provide free life-saving training and to fundraise for defibrillators.”

Heartstart has provided life-saving training to over 5,000 local residents and school children and helped fundraise for the purchase and installation of 34 defibrillators in Malvern.

West Worcestershire MP and big supporter of the charity, Dame Harriet Baldwin added: “I have known about Heartstart Malvern since I attended its launch in 2017.

“The volunteers have been doing an amazing job getting more defibrillators to Malvern and rolling out vital training sessions.

“I had no hesitation nominating the charity and I will continue to support the great work they do helping more people have the chance of surviving a serious cardiac incident.

“My Malvern team has undergone the charity’s training and I encourage as many people and businesses as possible to come forward and get trained.”
