Harvesting charity cash

THE CHAIRMAN of Malvern Hills District Council pulled in more than £1,000 by riding a vintage tractor the length of the district.

Coun Barbara Williams completed the 44 mile journey on a 53-year-old vintage tractor on Sunday (September 13) to rake in funds for the Midlands Air Ambulance – one of her two chosen charities.

Jack Hegarty, chief executive of MHDC, Coun Ian Hopwood, chairman of Worcestershire County Council, and Coun Bronwen Behan set Coun Williams on her way from The Hunters Inn in Buckbury at 10.30am.

The 64-year-old then spent the next five and a half hours on her red 1962 Massey Ferguson 35 tractor before ending the challenge at The Fountain Inn, Tenbury Wells.

On the day £800 was collected and with more than £1,000 donated online, Coun Williams is confident of reaching the £3,000 target.

She added: “I am overwhelmed by the generosity of the public.”
