Have you tried Malvern's letterboxing challenge?

Malvern Editorial 29th Jun, 2018   0

FAMILIES and children from across the district will have all summer to take part in a special Malvern Hills treasure hunt.

Letterboxing is an orienteering challenge where participants use a notebook with clues including a free map to find 25 rubber stamps hidden in letterboxes across the hills.

The stamps have been specially designed by children aged five to 13-years-old as part of a competition.

Once all 25 stamps have been found, explorers will be able to collect their well-earned ’25 Club Badge’ from the Malvern Tourist Information Centre.

To take part in the Letterboxing challenge, visit the TIC on Avenue Road to purchase a pack for just £3 which includes a clue sheet, notebook, badge and a free map.

The challenge, which will be available all summer, has seen 105 people receive packs and notebooks.

Coun David Watkins, portfolio holder for housing and communities on Malvern Hills District Council, said: “We have had a really positive response so far from families and children who have taken part.

“We want to let people know that the challenge is still available and families will be able to enjoy the beauty of the Malvern Hills whilst having fun and being active.”The challenge was created by Malvern Hills District Council in partnership with the Malvern Hills Trust and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty as a way of encouraging children and families to get outdoors and be active.

Beck Baker, community and conservation officer at the Malvern Hills Trust, added: “It has been fantastic to see so many families taking part in this challenge.

“We’re hoping more families will join the challenge to get active, to find out what’s so special about the Malvern Hills and possibly to explore some places they’ve never been before.”
