THE HEADTEACHER of a Malvern school which celebrated an improvement in its Ofsted rating has said he is determined to make the site ‘outstanding’.

Stuart Wetson, head at Dyson Perrins CofE Academy, said it was ‘fantastic’ the school’s work has been recognised after the inspection graded them ‘good’ across the board.

Having a ‘required improvement’ rating from the inspection body in 2013, the Yates Hay Road site got overall ‘good’ gradings in leadership and management, behaviour and safety, quality of teaching, achievement of pupils and sixth form provision.

Ofsted also rated the behaviour of sixth-form students as outstanding.

Mr Wetson, who has been head for 12 months, said: “My overriding vision for the school and determination is to make Dyson Perrins an outstanding academy, so we are very determined to act on any areas of development.

“It was great when I got the chance to lead the school so we could put some of these improvements in place and its great you can get the external validation that what you are doing is making a difference and is linked to the progress the kids are making.”

He added the progress was down to relentlessly driving school improvements in all areas and ensuring pupils had a really good diet of teaching and learning, ensuring the school catered for their needs.

Malvern MP Harriett Baldwin also paid tribute to the school and the work done since the last inspection.

Mrs Baldwin said: “Children deserve the very best start in life through their education – they only get one chance.

“Across the UK, 1million more children are being education in schools rated good or outstanding and this is essential for the UK’s continued prosperity, Worcestershire is no exception.

“As our local schools improve, they attract more families to the area and we need to plan for school growth as well as housing growth.”

Mr Wetson added he loved the fact his school was getting recognition for the right reasons.

“I don’t think it has always been the case where this school has received recognition or a positive perception in the community and I think it is really good some of that profile (Mrs Baldwin) has recognised us.”
