Heart of England Mencap preparing for week of festive fun in Malvern

Malvern Editorial 4th Dec, 2017   0

IT IS beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Malvern as Heart of England Mencap prepares for a week of festive fun.

From Monday, December 11 to Friday, December 15, the charity is throwing open the doors of the Second Malvern Scout HQ in Spring Lane to offer five days of special seasonal activities such as cookery classes, festive music sessions, the chance to make Christmas crackers and other seasonal crafts as well as an opportunity to hit the dancefloor at the Winter Disco.

All sessions run from 1pm to 3pm and cost £3 per person, with carers going free.

They are open to anyone with a learning disability and not just existing Heart of England Mencap customers.

“We have got some fabulous activities planned for the week and and we hope as many people as possible will join us,” said Ben Davies, service manager at Malvern Pathway.

“It’s a great way to learn new skills, make new friends and get into the spirit of Christmas at the same time.”

The week of festive fun is part of a feast of autumn and winter activities at Malvern Pathway, which run until the New Year.

They feature a whole range of events for people with learning disabilities such as bush craft, gardening, drama workshops, photography, arts and crafts, sports and games, swimming, cooking, an accessible book club, Makaton classes, relaxation and sensory sessions and much more.

Split into morning and afternoon sessions at the Spring Lane centre, all of the autumn and winter sessions cost £3, with carers going free.

People are welcome to join for as much or as little as they like, from one session to a full week or more.

“The activities really are a great way to form new friendships and to see what Mencap Pathway has to offer throughout the year here in Malvern,” added Mr Davies.

Heart of England Mencap brought Mencap Pathway to Malvern at the end of last year, based at the improved and refurbished Second Malvern Scout HQ.

Pathway now runs five days a week, welcoming many customers already.

Heart of England Mencap is also appealing for volunteers to get involved in all aspect of its work.
