Hitting the peaks for a high total

A FINANCE worker from Malvern Hills District Council scaled the highest mountains in England, Wales and Scotland in just 24 hours to raise more than £600 for charity.

Sue Gladwyn dusted off her hiking boots on Saturday and Sunday (June 13 and 14) to take on the Three Peaks Challenge in aid of West Midlands Search and Rescue (WMSAR) and the AVM Butterfly Charity.

Sue, who climbed a total of 9,800 feet, said the AVM Butterfly Charity was close to her heart as her step daughter had been affected by an Arteriovenous Malformation (AVMs), a defect of the circulatory system.

“She struggles every day with simple things we take for granted such as standing and walking and more funding is much needed for research into these defects,” she said.

“My husband also took on the challenge with me and he volunteers for WMSAR.

“They are a group of everyday people who give up their free time to train and provide support to the emergency services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

“They rely fully on donations from the public.”

District council leader, Coun Phil Grove, added: “We are very proud of what Sue has achieved in just 24 hours and delighted with the vital funds raised for such important causes.”
