Holy Trinity to host organ concert for charity

Malvern Editorial 10th Apr, 2024   0

MALVERN’S Holy Trinity Organ will soon be in concert providing an array of classical and contemporary arrangements.

The concert entitled Trinity Toccatas at 3pm on Saturday, April 20 will be performed by Holy Trinity resident organists, Billy Colborune and Charles Pavey.

As well as Bach’s famous Toccata and Fugue in D minor, there will be another Toccata in a set of French pieces well know to organists, before the concert takes a journey through organ solos and orchestral greats arranged for organ duet.

Film music will be represented by an arrangement from Hans Zimmer’s score of Christopher Nolan’s Oscar winning picture Interstellar as well as other contrasting musical gems, both ‘humorous’ and ‘reflective’.

Malvern’s musical hero, Edward Elgar, who lived in the Holy Trinity parish during the 1890’s will be represented when some of his well-known music is performed.

The concert is being staged as part of International Organ Day with proceeds going to Christian Aid and Holy Trinity Church.

Organist, Charles Pavey said: “The organ at Holy Trinity was installed five years ago and has more than met the need to be a flexible instrument, playing a vast spectrum of music and meeting all the demands placed on it.

“The organ continues to capture the imagination of those who play it and listen to it and, even now, we continue to find new and exciting combinations of sound which we look forward to demonstrating at the occasion.

“As well as being what we hope will be an inspiring afternoon of music, is an encouragement for people to come and hear what the organ is really capable of doing.”

Holy Trinity Church is located on Worcester Road at Link Top. Tickets cost £10 (18s and under FREE). Light refreshments will be served during the interval. Tickets also available on the door.
