MORE than 40 firefighters attended a major fire which severely damaged a house near Malvern.

Eight fire crews were called out at 1.30pm on Tuesday (October 20) at Hurst Farm in Castlemorton which they found the building, including the roof space, well alight.

Nobody was injured during the daytime blaze and the cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Firefighters were at the scene extinguishing the huge fire until the early hours of Wednesday morning. They tackled the fire using a combination of compressed air foam jets, main jets and hose reel jets.

The crews also used breathing apparatus sets to enter the building as well as nine metre ladders.

Prior to the fire, the occupants were in the process of renovating the building.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service Group Commander Dan Quinn said: “Whilst under renovation, buildings of all types are more susceptible to fire and at greater risk of the effects of fire.”

“We also encourage people to fit a working smoke alarm on every level of their home and ensure they are tested on a weekly basis.”

The Observer approached the owners of the property but they declined to comment.
