How Open Studios will give a chance to see behind scenes of creative process

ARTISTS from across Worcester and Malvern will be among those opening the doors of their creative spaces for the free annual Worcestershire Open Studios event.

The well-loved celebration of all things art kicks off on Saturday (August 20) until Bank Holiday Monday (August 29) for a behind the scenes peek on how artists bring their ideas to life.

Whether it’s painting, printmaking, jewellery, textiles, stained glass, woodwork, furniture making, there is a diverse range of artwork to see.

Across the county 108 artists are taking part across 91 venues with a third of the artists taking part from Worcester or Malvern.

This is the first time the event is over ten days, so there’s more opportunity than ever to see the artists taking part.

Sally Morgan, one of the organisers of Worcestershire Open Studios, met Mayor of Worcester Coun Adrian Gregson Mayor of Worcester to discuss Worcestershire Open Studios at the Tourist Information Centre in the Guild Hall.

“It was an honour to talk about Open Studios, the importance for artists and creators in Worcestershire to have a platform to share their work and to encourage more people to visit and enjoy art and cultural events.”

Ivan Maxwell Jones, artist, art tutor and painter of textured and expressive landscapes and abstracts said: “Malvern is a thriving community of talented artists and Worcestershire Open Studios is a wonderful opportunity to meet people interested in art, to talk about the work and processes involved.

“I’m exhibiting my original paintings (in acrylics and oils) and limited edition giclée prints in The Old Bottling Works on Bellevue Terrace where I’ll set up studio for the week, so do drop by and see me there.”

Deb Stanley pencil pastel and digital artist based in Malvern said: “Most of my work is inspired by the natural world, animals, birds, bugs and flowers. My style is detailed and realistic, I’ve been told it has a photographic 3D quality when viewed from a distance.

“It’s a great event where the public can view art in a relaxed, informal setting. There are always lots of questions about my process and I get valuable feedback on my work.

“I will have a large piece of work that I’ll be drawing during the event and will be happy to share my techniques and tips.”

Visitors are encouraged to plan their day out, printed guides to Worcestershire Open Studios are available from the Tourist Information Centre in Worcester and local libraries.
