THERE were scenes of joy and emotion when a brave Malvern man completed his fund-raising mission to get to the top of the Malvern Hills in his wheelchair.
More than a dozen people including friends and family were on hand to push Vaughn Albone along the iconic green land in his bid to raise vital funds for St Richard’s Hospice which has supported him through illness.
Vaughn, who is cared for by the charity, raised more than £1,100 on Saturday, November 14 after fulfilling the challenge on his 63rd birthday.
A team of 20 friends and family took it in turns to push him along the route from British Camp via Worcestershire Beacon to North Hill Clock Tower, including members of The Gloster Arms football team for whom he is assistant manager.

Vaughn said: “A St Richard’s Hospice nurse has been supporting me and my wife Chris through my recent illness. She has been a lifeline and has helped us tremendously.
“We have also known friends and families that have been cared for by the hospice and so I wanted to give something back – as they say, the joy is in the giving.
“We have lived in Malvern for many years and love spending time on the hills so we thought that a sponsored wheelchair push over the hills would be a wonderful way to spend my birthday and raise money for a great local charity at the same time.
“We are very grateful that our friends and family are generously giving their time and money for this worthwhile cause.”
