THE £125,000 renovation of a public toilet block in Tenbury Wells to make it more eco-friendly has been completed.

The impressively revamped conveniences in Teme Street reopened on Monday following the project which started back in March.

LED lights and integrated solar panels, linked by a hybrid battery system, have been installed, and low-flush toilets have been installed to reduce water and electricity consumption.

The work by Malvern Hills District Council is part of the authority’s Five Year Plans to refurbish five town centre toilets by 2025 and reduce the use of electricity and water.

With Great Malvern being the first town to receive the toilets, further improvements include Hanley Road car park toilets in Upton-upon-Severn where work is set to start in.

Other advancements are low water usage taps, new cubicles, above and below ground drainage, a complete re-tile, re-decoration and new windows and doors.

Coun John Gallagher, Portfolio Holder for Resources at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “This eco-friendly refurbishment is a great addition to the town, the project has brought so many benefits not only for the environment, but for visitors and residents too.”
