Inquest opened into death of man at Great Malvern Station

AN INQUEST has been opened into the death of a man who was hit by a train near Great Malvern Station.

Stewart Akins, of Nibley Close in Worcester, was found dead at the scene when officers from West Mercia Police and British Transport Police (BTP) attended the rail line about 11.30pm on Monday, May 25.

Police have said the man was in custody over the weekend and the matter had been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

The First Great Western train was not in passenger use at the time of the incident and was being used to move empty stock.




The line was closed from 11.30pm on the night to 1.10am the following day, Tuesday, May 26.

The inquest has been listed for October 8.
