AN INTERACTIVE challenge in Malvern which led to local school children walking more than 34 million steps will return next month and will be open to everyone across the district.
Street Tag, the interactive challenge, is a family-friendly smartphone app which records physical activity and encourages participants to explore their local area by visiting virtual tags and collecting points.
Malvern Hills District Council has partnered with Street Tag for a second year and is now opening the challenge to residents, businesses, workplaces, and community groups as part of its commitment to Active Travel.
Jen Taylor, director of communities and housing at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “Street Tag is a great way of getting active and having fun.
“Last year’s challenge was a great success with an impressive number of miles and steps taken.
“Now anyone can take part in the challenge – not just schools – we hope people get excited about Active Travel and getting out and about in their local area.”
The Malvern Hills leaderboard kicks off for the second year running on May 1 and will run until July 2. Prizes will be given out on a fortnightly basis and there will be one winner at the end of the challenge.
The council will be working with Freedom Leisure to provide the prizes.
As part of the challenge, virtual tags can be added to various locations and landmarks, with businesses, community groups, organisations being able to promote their services, events and offers.
Following the two-month challenge, Hanley Swan St Gabriel’s with St Mary’s C of E Primary School reached the top of the leaderboard.
A virtual Street Tag drop-in session will be held from 5pm to 5.45pm on April 28 where participants can ask any questions about how to get involved.
