TWO MALVERN charities came together to provide a special event for a group of residents at Christmas.

Waitrose and town charity Community Action teamed up for a lunch at The Cafe in The Green for more than a dozen elderly residents to help them feel less isolated and lonely during the festive break.

Kind-hearted Waitrose staff donated £800 to Age UK to hold event and Community Action provided transport was provided for those who needed it.

Guests were offered an aperitif by Waitrose volunteers before making their way to their places to be served a meal cooked by Alison Pearson of Cafe in the Green and volunteers from Community Action and Age UK.

George Waugh of Age UK Malvern and District said: “Thank you to Waitrose for their magnificent grant of £800.

“As a result of this 18 elderly people had a wonderful Christmas lunch, with all the trimmings served up for them in the Cafe in the Green, all prepared and cooked by Alison and Ken and served with the help of the enthusiastic volunteers.”
