A KEMPSEY runner has raised more than £2,000 for the National Deaf Children’s Society after successfully completing the London Marathn on Sunday.

Dayna Langley finished the 26.2mile course in five hours and 36 minutes for the charity which supports 50,000 deaf children and their families across the UK.

She chose to run for the cause because her daughter Maya was born with moderate to severe deafness and uses hearing aids and the family received support from the charity.

Dayna, 40, lives with her husband, Ben, and three children, Maya, Isaac and Ada.

She said: “I turned 40 in August, so this seemed like the perfect year to fulfill a lifelong ambition of running the iconic London Marathon while raising some vital funds for this amazing charity at the same time.

“The National Deaf Children’s Society was an invaluable source of information in those early days after diagnosis.

“We had so many questions that we needed answers to and the charity gave us those answers.”

Maya is now nine, attends mainstream primary school, takes part in all sorts of school activities and dreams of being an actress in the future.

Dayna added: “Thanks to the support she receives, she has the world at her feet.

“I am so thrilled to have completed the marathon, it was a truly incredible day.

“The support from the crowd was fantastic and I ran the last seven miles with a fellow National Deaf Children’s Society runner, which made the finish even more special.”

Elle Billinge, who supports fund-raisers for the National Deaf Children’s Society, said: “I want to say a huge thank you to Dayna for taking on this epic challenge for us. Conquering a marathon is a truly awe-inspiring achievement, and we’re so grateful.”
