Lamp posts project gets underway

Malvern Editorial 29th Aug, 2014 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

A PROJECT worth £2,000 is underway to address Malvern in Bloom’s Achilles heel – lamp posts.

Despite the town’s high standards over the years and consecutive Gold awards in the regional finals, judges have regularly commented on the poor appearance of street lights around Malvern.

But now, thanks to funding from County Councillors Ian Hopwood and Lucy Hodgson who have contributed £500 each out of their divisional funds, £600 donated to Malvern in Bloom and further money from Malvern Town Council, 17 lamp posts will be painted.

It was hoped the work would have been completed ahead of this year’s judging which included the town’s first ever entry in the national finals, but wet weather has caused a back log of jobs for highways staff.

Charles Porter, operations manager for Malvern Town Council, said: “The lamp posts have been letting us down so it is good we have now got the money to get them painted, and hopefully we can obtain more money so we can do more of them around Malvern.”
