Ledbury MP demands urgent action on potholes

LEDBURY MP Bill Wiggins has called on council chiefs to take urgent action on the amount of potholes still left on the town’s roads.

The North Herefordshire MP has pressed bosses at Herefordshire Council to make the most of the summer conditions before another winter of cold and wet weather escalates the problem.

Mr Wiggins’ call for immediate action comes after speaking to Ledbury residents at a recent surgery meeting who were concerned with the amount og potholes on the road as well as proposals to extend double yellow lines in the town.

“I still have constituents coming to see me at my surgeries to talk about potholes,” he said.

“At my surgery in Ledbury last week several constituents came to see me yet again about potholes, and a new Council proposal to extend double yellow lines in Ledbury – in areas where we don’t have enough parking space already.

“It is hard to understand why the Council are consulting on double yellow lines and restricting parking when they have other priorities that are time sensitive.

“There are numerous problems across Herefordshire, but there’s only one we have to tackle right now while the sun is shining – potholes, potholes, potholes.

“If we don’t tackle them now, the weather will soon turn and it will be too wet to do so.

“I was delighted with the additional £2.573 million Herefordshire was awarded from the National Pothole Fund in June. This was on top of the £3.5 million received from the Government in March, the highest award in the West Midlands.

“While I try to get more money from the Government I am calling on Herefordshire Council to spend that money and fill in our potholes now before it’s too late.”
