Leisure centre revamp to start after £65k boost

A MAJOR revamp of a Malvern leisure centre is set to get underway after tens of thousands of pounds were pumped into the site.

Sport Dyson Perrins received a £65,000 cash injection from Freedom Leisure, the company which operates the centre, to bring new equipment to the Yates Hay Road building.

The gym will be fitted with the latest treadmills and stationary bikes from Technogym.

Work is due to be completed by September 21 and during this time the gym will be open but visitors can use Malvern Splash or Tenbury Swimming Pool should it have to close.

Classes will run as normal during the refurbishment.

James Chaplin, Freedom Leisure centre manager, said: “I am really excited at the prospect of a new gym at both centres and think the new equipment will provide a wide range of opportunities for our community to stay active.

“With an ever-changing industry, it is great we can offer members the latest fitness technology to boost their exercise routine.”

Sport Martley Leisure Centre is also set for a £65,000 revamp through Freedom Leisure.

Mark Hammond, Malvern Hills District Council’s contracts and performance manager, added: “In line with the council’s commitment to delivering high quality, really good value services, I am pleased the current phase of investment by Freedom Leisure will provide high specification fitness suites at very competitive rates which will rival all privately run local gyms.”
