Leisure centres set for a major cash boost

Malvern Editorial 25th Mar, 2015 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

UP TO £2million worth of improvements will be carried out at the Malvern Hills leisure centres after new bosses took over.

Freedom Leisure will head the management of Malvern Splash, Sport Dyson Perrins and Sport Martley and will operate the centres on behalf of Malvern Hills District Council.

They will formally take over from next Wednesday (April 1) for a 15-year term and that will be in addition to Tenbury Swimming Pool which Freedom Leisure has managed since February 1.

Matt Hunt, group operations director at the company, said: “We feel confident the investment will greatly improve the quality of leisure services for the local community and provide excellent wellbeing and fitness facilities.

“In turn we hope the upgraded facilities will have a knock-on effect on participation levels in the area.

“We are working hard to ensure the transition to Freedom Leisure is as seamless as possible.”

Upgrade work will total £1.8million and includes all three centres having their gyms refurbished over the summer and Malvern Splash will benefit from a new ‘My Ride’ studio which will accommodate new spin classes.

Coun Phil Grove, portfolio holder for leisure, health and wellbeing for MHDC, added: “We are committed to delivering high quality, really good value for money for all our residents and consequently we spent nearly 12 months selecting our new leisure operator.

“We are very confident Freedom Leisure is the right fit for the Malvern Hills district and are looking forward to working with them to increase participation, improve the facilities and offer more leisure opportunities to all of our residents.”

Visit www.freedom-leisure.co.uk for more information about the changes at the centres.

The company is also running a two-week Easter kids camp at each venue for children aged 5 to 14. Sessions will take place from Tuesday (March 30) to April 10, between 8.45am and 3pm, and exclude bank holidays and weekends.

The cost is £15 per day or £55 for the week and booking can be done by calling 07825 876812 or emailing [email protected].
