LIVE BLOG - Emotions run high as students across Malvern receive their GCSE results

Malvern Editorial 24th Aug, 2023 Updated: 24th Aug, 2023   0

AFTER a hard fought two years, Malvern’s GCSE students arrive at schools across the region to collect their results and find out if all their hard work has paid off.

Pupils will be hoping they’ve got the grades they need to progress onto sixth-form, college or other training and employment.

This year’s GCSE results are following a new numerical grading system which scores students from 9 to 1 rather than the previous alphabetical grading of A to E.

It’s a strong set of grades across the board at Malvern St James’, with this years cohort improving on pre-pandemic levels in 2019.

In Sciences, 66 per cent of pupils achieved grades 9-7 in Physics, 76 percent achieved 9-7 in Chemistry and 59 per cent achieved 9-7 in Biology.

Alongside this, in the STEM suite of subjects, Computer Science was 71 per cent of grades 9-7, Maths 50 per cent and Further Maths 67 per cent.

In Arts and Humanities subjects, 70 per cent of pupils achieved grades 9-7 in Art, 78 per cent in French and 69 per cent in Drama.

History saw 90 per cent of pupils achieving grades 9-7, and Latin 80 per cent achieved 9-7.

A significant number of pupils received a clean sweep of top grades, including one pupil who next year will receive the prestigious Founders’ Award bursary scholarship.

Headmistress, Olivera Raraty, said: “We are very proud of our Year 11 – a busy group with a broad range of interests and talents.

“They are real “all-rounder” pupils who spend a lot of time in extra-curricular activities, from hockey to drama, fencing to dancing and music to debating, and still achieve academically.

“Pupils’ achievement is testimony to their hard work and the quality of teaching from a very experienced and dedicated staff body who have supported them both in and out of the classroom.

“We always work with our pupils as individuals to help them grow and they benefit enormously from this expert care.”
